What Is the Red Seal?

The Red Seal endorsement is a nationally recognized standard of excellence in the skilled trades. It allows certified tradespeople to work in any province or territory without additional testing. Currently, 56 trades are designated under the Red Seal program.

How to Get Your Red Seal

Register as an apprentice

Contact your provincial apprenticeship authority and register in a Red Seal designated trade.

Complete your apprenticeship

Accumulate the required work hours (typically 5,400–9,000) and technical training periods.

Apply for the exam

Your province will confirm your eligibility. The exam is a multiple-choice test based on the National Occupational Analysis.

Pass with 70%+

Score at least 70% to earn your Red Seal endorsement on your provincial Certificate of Qualification.
